Classical Quartet, November

Look everyone! The return of 'the curse of the music stand'. I'm branching out from jazz, just a bit.

In keeping with my intention that these are empirical drawings; the result of working at a performance, this doesn't have tone because I didn't have time.
 All the drawings posted on here are exactly as I brought them home from the gigs.

Jazz- sept.

Jazz is back on..

Most of my previous drawings have fundamentally been figure studies, so I wanted to get more of a sense of the environment.
 Lyle Bignon from Symphony Hall press office spotted me at work and took this nice shot.

Moi

Photographer Drew Kirkland caught me sketching at the Jazz festival. Behold my concentration, and pocket handkerchief.

You can see more of his shots from other gigs and his folio at;

Jazz June No.3

I tried a front row seat this week. After his solo in the first song the saxophonist walked through the audience to the back of the room, presumably to take in the sound.  He did a double-take as he walked back to the band and saw my drawing of the pianist; first he took in the fact someone was drawing. Second, what I'd drawn registered with him and he turned back and mimed the size of the nose I'd drawn in front of everyone. Awesome players.
